Micro/sys Releases First StackableUSB™ Computer with Fast Pentium® III Processor on a Small Footprint
Montrose, CA . . . Micro/sys has released the first StackableUSB™ CPU board on a Pentium® III processor, creating a powerful, high-speed, RoHS compliant single board computer that provides I/O expansion via StackableUSB™ peripherals. In addition to all standard PC features, the SBC1685 also includes a Gigabit Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 high-speed (480Mbit/s) ports, four USB 1.1 full speed ports, and a CompactFlash interface. With up to 256MB of socketed SDRAM, and full PC-compatibility, high performance embedded control systems can be implemented on this small industrial form factor (PC/104 size) SBC. The Intel 815E chipset enables the SBC1685 to operate systems and applications that require full disk-based GUI systems. The SBC1685 can boot Linux, Windows CE, Windows XP, VxWorks®, DOS, Phar Lap ETS, and other PC-compatible operating systems.
At the core of the SBC1685 is the Low Power Intel Pentium® III processor, which runs at 933MHz, or the Ultra-Low Voltage Celeron® processor, which runs fanless at 400 or 650MHz. This is the first time these powerful processors have been coupled with the new industrial quality StackableUSB™ interconnect architecture, which enables the control of up to 8 StackableUSB™ peripheral devices in a rugged, bolt-together platform for embedded applications. The Intel CPU and chipset have been selected for long term availability, and include PC-compatible PCI, USB, EIDE, SDRAM, interrupt, timer, and DMA controllers, all popular embedded features. The
SBC1685 also offers a printer port, keyboard, mouse, external IDE and floppy controllers, and a watchdog timer. The Gigabit Ethernet is capable of communicating with 10/100/1000 Base-T networks. The USB 2.0 stackable interfaces support high-speed (480 Mbit/s), full-speed (12 Mbit/s) and low-speed (1.5 Mbit/s).

Micro/sys Releases First StackableUSB™ I/O Board with 48 lines of Digital I/O
Montrose, CA .... The Micro/sys USB148 is the first I/O board to implement the new StackableUSB™ specification. This high density digital I/O and timer board brings real world I/O to StackableUSB™. It operates as a USB device when stacked above or below a host CPU board. Up to four of these USB peripheral boards can be stacked in any combination or with other I/O boards, satisfying the growing demand for more flexibility and faster board-to-board communication. The StackableUSB™ point-to-point architecture routes the connections up the stack to the next peripheral in line, bringing USB technology into rugged, compact spaces and making it an ideal choice for industrial applications.
The USB148 addresses the needs of OEM systems requiring high quantities of digital I/O lines by providing two 82C55 DIO devices which offer 48 lines of TTL I/O, as well as an onboard 82C54 device that provides three 16-bit timer/counters. The 8-position DIP switch and 8 LEDs can be used for debugging during system development, for station number, or configuration settings in the final production system. All discrete I/O lines have software programmable pull-ups or pull-downs. The robust USB148 also protects against power sequencing problems with onboard current-limiting resistors that prevent overload currents.

SBC1496: Micro/sys Releases StackableUSB™ 486/586 Computer with LCD/ Touchscreen Interface and Ethernet for Extended Temp Applications
Montrose, CA . . . . This high-performance 486/586 CPU board is the newest addition to Micro/sys’ StackableUSB™ single board computers. The SBC1496 is a powerful RoHS compliant controller that operates from –40°C to +85°C and provides I/O expansion via StackableUSB™ peripherals. In addition to PC-compatible features, such as SVGA and dual serial ports, the new model also includes four USB 2.0 high-speed (480Mbits/s) ports, two USB 1.1 full-speed ports, and 100BASE-T Ethernet support. With up to 64MB of SDRAM, CompactFlash, and full AT-compatibility, high-performance control systems can be implemented on this stackable embedded form factor (PC/104-size) SBC. The SBC1496 can boot DOS, Linux, Windows CE, VxWorks, and other PC-compatible operating systems.
The SBC1496 is implemented with the STPC Atlas processor, which offers speeds up to 133MHz, on-chip cache, 64-bit DRAM access, hardware floating point, digital I/O, and AT-compatible EIDE, interrupt, timer, and DMA controllers. The SBC1496 includes COM1, COM2, SuperVGA, keyboard, and mouse. The SuperVGA includes hardware acceleration, and drives CRT monitors and LVDS TFT flat panel displays with
resolutions to 1024 x 1024. 100 MHz Ethernet provides fast, reliable communications.

USB196: Micro/sys Releases High Density StackableUSB™ Expansion Board with 96 Lines of Digital I/O
Montrose, CA . . . . The Micro/sys USB196 is a high density digital I/O board that implements the new StackableUSBTM standard. The USB196 offers high quantities of digital I/O for OEM systems by providing four 82C55’s that support 96 TTL I/O lines. The 8-position DIP switch and 8 LEDs can be used for debugging during system development, for station number, or configuration settings in the final production system. All discrete I/O lines have software programmable pull-ups or pull-downs. Protecting against power sequencing problems, the robust USB196 prevents overload currents with onboard current-limiting resistors.
At the core of the USB196 is a Silicon Laboratories C8051F340 microcontroller unit that runs at 48 MHz. This core is compatible with 8051 architecture and integrates many peripherals such as the 10-bit A/D converter, 2 UARTs, 1 I2C, and 1 SPI bus, all of which are available to the user. Due to a predefined protocol that carries data over the USB, it is not necessary to modify the code which runs on the USB196. In conjunction with this protocol, host applications, via a custom driver, can directly access and control all of the onboard peripherals. Therefore, the only code that needs to be modified to control the USB196 resides on the host CPU. This expansion board also has USB 2.0 compatibility which supports both full speed (12 Mbps) and low speed (1.5 Mbps).
