486/586 Computer Provides Fast Boot-up Time for
Extended Temperature Embedded Applications
Montrose,
CA . . . . Based on a high-performance 486/586
core, the SBC1491ET from Micro/sys is a full-featured
PC/104 (3.55" x 3.775") computer that
has a sub-5 second boot-up time using an industrial
BIOS or DOS operating system. The board can operate
in a –40°C to +85°C environment and
includes standard PC features such as SVGA, dual
serial ports, and 10BASE-T Ethernet support. With
64MB of RAM, up to 576MB solid state flash, and
full AT-compatibility, the SBC1491ET is a cost
effective mid-range controller. For applications
not requiring Pentium speed, the SBC1491ET offers
PC-compatibility operating up to 133MHz, yet generates
less heat, requires less power and costs less.
In its stackthrough version, the SBC1491ET is ideal
for plugging onto a custom OEM I/O card or other
PC/104 expansion cards. In addition to DOS, software
development packages for the SBC1491ET include
Linux, Windows CE, and VxWorks.
The SBC1491ET uses an STPC Atlas processor, with
operating speeds from 120MHz to 133MHz, on-chip cache,
64-bit DRAM access, hardware floating point support,
and AT-compatible interrupt, timer, and DMA controllers.
The SBC1491ET has two serial ports, COM1, COM2, SuperVGA,
keyboard, and mouse. The SuperVGA includes hardware
acceleration, and drives CRT monitors with resolutions
up to 1280
x 1024. The 10 MHz Ethernet provides
fast, reliable communications. I/O expansion is
available by using the popular on-board PC/104
connector.
The large 576MB solid state flash space available
on the SBC1491ET can be used as solid-state storage
for operating systems other than DOS and large applications.
Micro/sys installs a ready-to-run firmware system
on the SBC1491ET at no cost. This firmware includes
a complete industrial BIOS, board setup screens,
and application download utilities, and can create
a DOS-like execution environment immediately upon
powerup. Borland or Microsoft C/C++ 16-bit .EXE files
can be downloaded to the board upon receipt. Alternatively,
the computer may be configured to boot 32-bit operating
systems upon powerup. A free development kit is provided
that includes download cables, sample software, and
full documentation. A full cable set can be purchased
to support all onboard I/O.
The
basic SBC1491ET starts at $512 in single quantity.
A
commercial temperature version that operates from
0°C to +70°C is also available starting at
$455. Optional features are quite cost effective,
as they do not require additional boards. Significant
OEM discounts are available. Contact Technical Sales
