Microsoft Windows 98 can be installed on many of the embedded PCs with 486 or better processors. By using Windows™ for your project you are able to use all of the features of the 32-bit operating systems that you are used to seeing on your desktop. Graphics, TCP/IP, UDP/IP, IPX, and Microsoft networking, large hard drives, and large amounts of RAM are all available for your
applications.

Using Windows 98 is embedding a desktop operating system into your project. You can use applications written for desktop machines out of the box. Development for embedded systems running Windows 98 is identical to that for a full desktop PC. In standard configurations, Windows 98 requires VGA, keyboard, and a mouse.
